I do like the concept. I will attend the next Green Drinks on tuesday 31st of March at Palate Palette, in Kuala Lumpur and find out more about it.

The idea is to gather people who work in the environmental field  at informal sessions known as Green Drinks.

Green Drinks movement describes himself as “a lively mixture of “Green” people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you’ll be made welcome. Just say, “are you green?” and they will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It’s a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organising network.

It is now active in  465 cities worlwide.greendrinks-kl-logo

Green Drinks Kuala Lumpur invitesanyone with an interest in local and international environmental and sustainability issues – all ages, backgrounds and groups – non-profits, academia, government, small business, big business, self-employed, volunteers, students, concerned citizens, curious people… and everything in between.”

More information on the Green Drinks Malaysia web page at  http://www.greendrinks.org

Palate Palette is located at 21 Jalan Mesui, off Jalan Nagasari (behind Istana Hotel), in Kuala Lumpur.

Hope to meet some of you guys there.

This will be the first time Malaysia officially takes part in Earth Hour. It’s good news. Events that contribute to save energy and raise people awareness about global climate changes are always good news.

This event is part of an international campaign orchestrated by WWF. You find out more on their website http://www.earthhour.org

by switching off your lights for one hour. on March 28 you can VOTE EARTH “. The results of the election are being presented at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. WWF want one billion votes for Earth, to tell world leaders that we have to take action against global warming.”

I like it.

But I really don’t like how they make you feel guilty by saying “Or you can vote global warming by leaving your lights on.” Read the rest of this entry »

Who they are and what they do

japamala-kinnaree-overseeing-the-walkway-to-the-resortThis is a resort like no other in Pulau Tioman, Pahang. It is luxury without decadence; a rustic escape with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel; a soothing sanctuary in an undisturbed corner of an otherwise busy island. Japamala Resort is high-end comfort at minimal cost to the planet.
Maple Loo-Asaro and Federico Asaro are avid fans of nature and this husband and wife team has transferred this passion to their resort. The most outstanding feature of this place is how it has incorporated all the elements of nature into the design of each of their villas. Individually designed by Federico himself, each villa or sarang
(nest) is made to accommodate the area on which it is perched, and not the other way around. Read the rest of this entry »

Who they are and what they do

fp-signboardThe Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa is serious about being green. It does not stop at a passive plea to its guests to save water, switch off the lights and reuse their towels. Instead it has a systematic program in place to reduce its carbon footprint, work towards self-sustainability, give back to the local community and educate its guests. And just to ensure that the desired green attitudes and practices are in place; Chek Min En was hired as its environment and education officer to share her passion for the planet with both staff and guests.
The list of green achievements at this very comfortable resort can be found on their website, but they are not simply green washing. The owner of the resort, Anthony Wong, is a long-time Malaysian Nature Society member and his goal is to imbibe every facet of the establishment with his green philosophies.
