Kuching is a perfect destination for a traveller to start exploring Sarawak in Borneo, especially if you travel with children and are aware of responsible travel.
Kuching is a nice town offering a wide range of good museum – maybe among the best in Malaysia -, nice heritage buildings from the 19th century, wide and safe sidewalks that allow you to discover the place slowly – everything is at a walking distance – and the best sunset I have ever seen in Malaysia
Nature and wilderness – proboscis monkeys, orang-outan, turtles,birds, big spiders..- are easily accessible at less than one hour, as well as nice and quiet beaches. And no leeches waiting for your blood, that’s great!
The place offers also many opportunities to learn about the indigenous communities of Sarawak.

Who they are and what they do
Every year the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) celebrates this annual arrival of hundreds, sometimes thousands of honey-buzzards, goshawks, sparrowhawks, Black bazas and many more birds of prey. These amazing winged creatures pause in the Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve (not far from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan) as they make their way on their long sojourn to their breeding grounds in Japan, Siberia, Kamchatka, Korea and other far-flung northern areas. Located at the narrowest part of the Malacca Straits, the raptors stop here to recharge after flying non-stop for 32km from Indonesia.
Who are they and what they do
Outskirt Outreach (OO) is a social organization located in Ipoh, Perak. Run by volunteers, OO’s objectives are to highlight and help the hidden indigenous communities of Perak and contribute to the local rural economy.“Since we know a bit about the nice places around Ipoh, we figured we could raise funds by organising trips for visitors who want an insider’s account. Like a local friend”, explained Casey Ng, OO’s founder. He started OO a few years ago when he returned to Ipoh, his hometown, to help his father with his business. Read the rest of this entry »
