Pura Tanjung Sabtu is a collection of centuries-old Terengganu Malay timber houses, located in Tanjung Sabtu village, 14 km from Kuala Terengganu on Malaysia’s East coast.

Who are they and what do they do

This Special Interest Group, the Heritage Guides, formally known as the Heritage Group, is a professional group of tourist guides able to conduct Heritage tours. They are all licensed tourist guides for Malaysia (that means that they have a tourist guide blue-badge given by the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism).
Initially, the Heritage Group was initiated to enable guides with a special interest in heritage and history to develop their skills and enhance their knowledge in these fields. The Heritage group is part of the Malaysian Tourist Guide Council.
They trained themselves by organizing talks given by experts on heritage and history, by doing research and going on fieldtrips. Read the rest of this entry »

Who are they and what they do

the-annexe-galleryLaunched in January 2007, the Annexe Gallery is a Contemporary Art Center. It is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur in the Annexe Central Market building, just opposite Central Market. It is managed by Central Market Sdn Bhd, the private company who recently bought Central Market and revamped it.
It offers five galleries (all together 7000 sq ft / 650 m2) at levels 1 and 2 of the building, each of them with timber flooring and high ceilings. The galleries are spacious; they combine heritage and contemporary ambiances; and are suitable for any form of contemporary art: dance, theatre, music, talks, lectures, exhibitions, cinema….
Pang Khee Teik, the Arts Programme Director encourages experimental art forms and socio-political expressions. He believes that challenging local artists will allow them to dream, share their dream with the public and go further in their artistic creation and expression. Read the rest of this entry »

Who are they and what they do

The Society Atelier Sarawak is a registered voluntary organisation (NGO) based in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. Its three main objectives are:

  • To appreciate and promote, share and acquire knowledge of Sarawak Arts and Crafts.
  • To promote the cultural exchange of arts and crafts with other countries.
  • To encourage research and study into the history and evolution of the culture, arts and crafts of Sarawak.

mvm-mnegaraIn October 2006, a small group of women gathered at the National Museum of Kuala Lumpur (Muzium Negara) with the idea of starting a volunteer organization that would guide visitors through the various galleries, plus perform in-depth research on various artifacts found on display and in storage.
