Who are they and what they do
The Society Atelier Sarawak is a registered voluntary organisation (NGO) based in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. Its three main objectives are:
- To appreciate and promote, share and acquire knowledge of Sarawak Arts and Crafts.
- To promote the cultural exchange of arts and crafts with other countries.
- To encourage research and study into the history and evolution of the culture, arts and crafts of Sarawak.
Who are they and what they do
The Malaysian Nature Society has been contributing towards the protection of Malaysia’s natural heritage since 1940. Who are they and what they do
In October 2006, a small group of women gathered at the National Museum of Kuala Lumpur (Muzium Negara) with the idea of starting a volunteer organization that would guide visitors through the various galleries, plus perform in-depth research on various artifacts found on display and in storage. Who are they and what they do
Reita Faida Rahim, started Gerai OA in October 2004. She is currently the leader of the volunteer group but she prefers to be considered the coordinator.
Gerai OA defines itself as a “nomadic volunteer-run stall which sells handicraft made by Orang Asal (or Orang Asli), the indigenous minorities of Malaysia”. They are not a business, not an NGO, just a volunteer group.
Their main objective is to preserve the indigenous minorities’ craft heritage by helping them to find and develop a sustainable market for their crafts. They only facilitate the sale of the craft and encourage the indigenous communities to develop their own businesses.
