Who they are and what they do

japamala-kinnaree-overseeing-the-walkway-to-the-resortThis is a resort like no other in Pulau Tioman, Pahang. It is luxury without decadence; a rustic escape with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel; a soothing sanctuary in an undisturbed corner of an otherwise busy island. Japamala Resort is high-end comfort at minimal cost to the planet.
Maple Loo-Asaro and Federico Asaro are avid fans of nature and this husband and wife team has transferred this passion to their resort. The most outstanding feature of this place is how it has incorporated all the elements of nature into the design of each of their villas. (nest) is made to accommodate the area on which it is perched, and not the other way around. Read the rest of this entry »

Who they are and what they do

fp-signboardThe Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa is serious about being green. It does not stop at a passive plea to its guests to save water, switch off the lights and reuse their towels. Instead it has a systematic program in place to reduce its carbon footprint, work towards self-sustainability, give back to the local community and educate its guests. The list of green achievements at this very comfortable resort can be found on their website, but they are not simply green washing. The owner of the resort, Anthony Wong, is a long-time Malaysian Nature Society member and his goal is to imbibe every facet of the establishment with his green philosophies. Who they are and what they do

rww-raptorsEvery year the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) celebrates this annual arrival of hundreds, sometimes thousands of honey-buzzards, goshawks, sparrowhawks, Black bazas and many more birds of prey. These amazing winged creatures pause in the Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve (not far from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan) as they make their way on their long sojourn to their breeding grounds in Japan, Siberia, Kamchatka, Korea and other far-flung northern areas. Located at the narrowest part of the Malacca Straits, the raptors stop here to recharge after flying non-stop for 32km from Indonesia.
